Tula, The Revolt is an international production about the leader of the Slave Revolt of 1795 on the island of Curacao, which at the time, fell under the rule of the Republic of the United Netherlands. A true story about repression, desperation and betrayal played by stars like Danny Glover and Jeroen Krabbé.
Tula is a dark slave at Van Uytrecht's Knip plantation who is very conscious of the inequality between the white oppressors and the slaves. When a rumor about slavery being abolished on Haïti reaches him, Tulahe is the first person to try and talk his master into treating white and dark people on Curaςao equally. When his efforts fall on deaf ears, Tula decides to go on strike.
Tula The Revolt tells the true story of a man who dared to stand up against his oppressors leading his people in a peaceful march for freedom, equality and brotherhood. An action movie, but at the same time a character movie, giving the audience the insights of a reluctant leader, his hopes, his fears, his values, his love, his faith, but also his inevitable destiny.
