“Who for heaven’s sake is even thinking about taking a vacation in these days under the actual economic circumstances? You got to be crazy even to consider it!” That’s what I overheard the other day when a good friend of mine was explaining his beloved that for the time being Vacation was out of the planning. Simply, finito!
Nowadays, plenty of us have a 36 hour’s agenda planned in a 24 hours day. Even more, today’s workaholic climate makes many of us feel guilty, weak or even bad for taking the downtime that’s bestowed to us, not realizing that leaving vacation days unused will lower productivity and even worse. It will raise our stress hormone.
Going on vacation is not only a social but also a healthy action, for more than one reason.
- Several surveys have determined that people who regularly go on a vacation live longer.
- Men are moreover more vulnerable than women.
- Also the sickness ratio is lower among vacationers.
- It’s established that home stayers have higher levels of cortisol, an agent which is a stress hormone and elevates the aging process.
- Going on vacation does not necessarily means that one has to go out of the town or country.
- Taking a vacation entails being our own boss for at least a week or even some more days and doing exactly those things at our hearth’s desire, at the time chosen to do so.
Simply put: Be the master of our own daily agenda. Of course in coherence with those that share our regular life scheme.
Doing one’s heart’s delights will make you feel good and relaxed. Our nowadays way of living does not give us an opportunity to sometimes breathe fresh air, enjoy a daybreak and a sunny weather. No wonder that at older age, when ready to enjoy our retirement, all the pending health bills are presented. Proper rest will give our bodies an opportunity to regenerate and recuperate its healthy status where still possible.
