How does a professional woman handle work,
money, image, power, health, opportunity,
control, creativity, influence and vision?
One of the realities in these times is that everyone must accept that education is a continuing learning process. The time that one got a diploma that was still valid after 30 years is passé.
So how about that one weekend in a year where great professional ambitious women and supporting males, meet to get great empowering information, pick each other’s brains, network, gain relevant general knowledge, play, learn and yes celebrate them?
It will happen again this year for the 10th consecutive time in Curaçao.
The annual women conferences started in 2004 with "About Women & Work", 2005 "About Women & Money", 2006 "About Women & Image", 2007 "About Women & Power", 2008 “About Women & Health”, 2009 “About Women & Opportunity”, 2010 “About Women & Control”, 2011 “About Women & Creativity”, 2012 "About Women & Influence” and May 24, 25 and 26 and in 2013 it is for the 10th time again another great experience with “About Women & Vision".
Vision?
The annual women conferences in Curaçao aims to provide an annual weekend space for professional women from all walks of life, with a relevant topic of interest that will contribute to the personal and professional development of each participant.
This year’s speakers Jocelyne Josiah from Guyana, Dr. Martha Llanos from Peru, Dr. Lydia Emerencia from Bonaire and Mariano Heyden from Curaçao, will talk about the value of vision from their professional background and sharing with those present how to work on their vision to create the best life for themselves.
This of course following the resolutions of the past conferences and how a vision or lack of a vision influences both personal as private lives. Based on the input of the participants and the speakers, the conference hopes to provide contemporary strategies and tools that professional women can apply to create or adapt their professional and life’s vision.
Celebration of Women
The annual women conference in Curaçao will start this year with the celebration of women that includes the recognition of the ‘2013 Outstanding Woman’. This recognition is to respect the work and talent of a role model: a woman over 60 or who passed away after 60 years of age, who had a career and who lives or is/was from the Caribbean. It is also the intention to document as many Caribbean career women as possible.
Past Outstanding Women are: 2012 Maria Carmen (Shon Chechi) Hellmund-Boom (Bonaire 1898 – 1961) politician; 2011: Jenny Fraay, initiator of the literacy project Pro Alfa; 2010: Thelma Brunings a retired midwife; 2009: Lucina da Costa Gomes Matheeuw who as a minister in the government of the Netherlands Antilles signed the law for married women to have the legal right to sign official papers without the permission of her husband; 2008 Mila Palm who as a teacher and coach helped to keep teen mothers in school; 2007 Zelma ‘Chèma’ Maduro (1927 – 2011) who worked for 52 years as a kindergarten teacher and in 2006 Nilda Juliana-Jansen who started the cleaning service company Servisio na Bo Òrdu opening opportunity for women to work and to earn a salary. An international team of jurors has the challenging task to choose this year’s winner.
